Physiotheraphy

I had another session with Kate this morning. My spinal movement isn’t too bad but I need to keep it moving. She said this is the best way to help prevent scar tissue forming, and that in itself should help to reduce the likelihood of the cord adhering again. Somewhat surprised that this is the first time anyone has told me about such a connection.

I have been given some different exercise to both help with the movement in my spine, but also that will help with my balance.  I also need to be less protective of my spine when bending down etc. She said that, whilst the advice about keeping your back straight when lifting heavy objects is definitely a rule to follow, if I am bending down to pick up something light (or doing my bending down exercises!) it is perfectly acceptable – and indeed preferable – to allow the body and therefore spine to role over. This helps ensure all the vertebrae are flexing.

Kate feels hydrotherapy is going to be the best thing for the next step and I have got myself booked in with her for a session on Tuesday.  As I will be having hydrotherapy she does not feel I need to go back to physio therapy for a month. In the meantime I have a range of exercises I can do, as well as doing some gentle work on the cross-trainer, venturing out on the bicycle and doing the hydrotherapy exercises at the local pool.
