I worked 9am until 1.15pm on Monday and then went for my first session with one of the physio technicians, Katrina, in the hospital gym. Having had a quick review of my symptoms and chat about the level of pain on Sunday, I started with about 4 minutes gentle cycling. I then went on to the leg press, initially using both legs, but then swapping to only my left leg. I think I had 15Kg for the single leg, so nice and light just to provide some resistance. I found the weight absolutely fine, but my problem was being able to control letting the weights back down. Rather than a smooth motion, it was very jerky and reminded me of how my leg was trying to hold the car on the clutch before I had the first round of surgery last year. I still haven’t tried a manual car, but given the jerky action doing the leg presses, I suspect I would find using a clutch the same.
Yesterday I worked the afternoon due to pre-arranged meetings. Well at least the plan was that I’d be continuing to do half days this week, but as it turned out I spent most of the morning working at home.
Following the meetings in the afternoon I spent the last couple of hours sorting my new office out after my team had kindly shifted my furniture and stuff down in the mornin. By the way I feel now I suspect I over did it, but at least I now am back to having an office laid out in a way that works well for me, and I have my own chair back which provided much better support than others at work. In the evening I had a lot of very sharp twinges in my back, mostly to the right side, and also in the same position in my chest.
Something I need to keep an eye on is numbness around my chest. I’ve not had anything like the level of numbness in my chest as I had after the first op, but I noticed a couple of days ago that I was feeling a bit numb round to my right nipple – something I don’t think I’ve been aware of since surgery – and last night it was similar on the right side.
