Another so-so week

This week has been a bit manic, and dare I say I’m starting to drift back towards my old work schedule.  By Wednesday I realised that tying to fit in hydrotherapy on Thursday and a gym session with Katrina today was not going to work, so I rescheduled the hydrotherapy session for a couple of weeks.

I haven’t really felt like I’ve improved much in the last few weeks.  Katie asked me on Monday if I thought I was still improving, but my answer was that I feel like I’ve plateaud some what.  I went to the gym session with Katrina this morning and focussed on balance exercises again.  Surprisingly I found I was much better on the rocking slowly from the balls of my meet back to my heels and lifting my toes.  My left toes still don’t come up off the ground much, but I felt more steady.  We tried putting some deliberate steps back after some, and after a few tries it started to feel reasonably natural.  Interestingly it was my right foot that I was less steady on if anything.  We then moved on to doing some steps up on what I think is probably about the equivalent of 1.5 the height of a normal household stair.  I found this relatively easy, and most of the time didn’t even feel I needed my hand near the rail for safety.  Next was the balance board.  Front to back was still fairly abismal, although I think I had a little more control than last time.  Side to side definitely felt better.  Rocking to the left was jerky, and I kept correcting myself as I went down to stop it hitting the floor, but I felt a lot more in control than previously.  Rocking to the right wasn’t as good.  I just couldn’t get to the point where if I moved my weight over to that side I wouldn’t feel like I was just going to go all the way to the floor.  I did manage it a few times though.  I also did some leg presses again.  Both legs with 30Kg felt ok, and I think was smoother than before.  20Kg on just the left leg was again smoother, but when I got to the point of the leg not quite being extended, it felt like I had no control to stop it going right to the locked position.

I ended up back and forth to the main building, and up to the top floor of our offices a couple of times each today, and I could feel myself getting a little bit more wobbly each time, but nothing too major.  One of the trips to the main building was to get my bloods done, as it is 11 weeks since my last testerone injection and the GP wants to see what my levels are like prior to the next injection, to see if I need to be moved to a ten or eleven week cycle rather than 12.  Hopefully the results will be in my on-line account in a day or so.  I also hope my MRI report will be through early next week.  The GP wants to check my BP again in the next week or so.  I haven’t checked it for a while, but I have been aware, even without using the monitor on my watch, that my heart-rate has been increasing lately, and when I’ve looked at the monitor readings, it does seem to be going over 100bpm, even when I’m not doing anything that might be even remotley considered exercising (laying on the bed reading emails for exampe).

This evening we went out for dinner for H’s birthday, and I was ok for most of the meal, but towards the end was getting quite a bit of pain, and walking back to the car I was all over the place (1 non-alcoholic beer and some water, so not drink induced!)  I was glad to get back and get my evening pain relief.
