Not a good start to the holiday

After Monday and Tuesday, I knew Wednesday was going to be crazy. Once I got meetings etc out of the way I was eventually able to put my headphones on and settled down to a really productive 5 hour session uninterrupted. Unfortunately that didn’t happen until 4pm, so yet another evening was written off. I also ended up working some of Thursday morning at home before going in to town in the afternoon to go to the cinema.

Much delayed even by my standards, I eventually got round to doing my Christmas shopping yesterday. I think this might me the first time I’ve done non-grocery type shopping on my own since using a walking stick. When I grocery shop I tend to not use my stick and just use a trolley for balance. I’m sure I just need to get the knack, but I found it extremely frustrating. If I put my stick down to pay at tills I inevitably dropped it, and if I left it dangling from the wrist strap, it was banging into everything in sight. I’m so glad I had the foresight to take a rucksack to carry stuff in. Later in the afternoon I picked up a few additional groceries and, not thinking what I was getting (and in the absence of any small trollies) I grabbed a basket. I didn’t get a lot, but some was quite heavy and I was really hurting by the time I got to the car. I didn’t feel too bad in the evening – no worse than normal I’d say.

I didn’t get to sleep until gone 1am and was awake at about 3.30 to go to the loo. I remember feeling very wobbly and a little bit sore but nothing too unusual. However, when I woke again about 6.30 my back was agony. The pain is more widespread than normal and when Cat rubbed my back to comfort me, it felt like the areas of complete numbness were across a wider area than normal. I took my normal meds about half an hour ago and will see how I am in another half hour as to whether I’m going to need a morning tramadol to get me through the day. We’re going to visit Cat’s brothers today so I’d rather not be moaning about my back all the time.
