Getting unbearable at times

I cycled to work again on Wednesday last week, but was in quite a bit of pain by the time I got home so went by car for the rest of the week in case I was overdoing it.

The weekend was particularly bad. When I sat I felt like I needed to lay down to get comfortable, but if I laid down it was just as bad. I was at an off-site meeting all day Monday and the chairs were terrible, so it was no surprise I suffered in the evening and overnight. As a consequence I didn’t cycle on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I did manage it yesterday. I thought it was a good day for it as I only had meetings 12-1pm and 2-3pm, so I’d have plenty of opportunity to move around. However, my 12pm overran almost into the 2pm, which then didn’t finish until almost 6pm – way too much time to be sat, even in my own office chair. It also meant I didn’t take my 12:30 pain relief until 18:00, so my 17:00 dose was skipped completely. I left work about 8pm and the cycle home was fine, but when I got off the bike and put it away, I started to get a searing pain from my right shoulder blade round to and down my right side. This went on for a few hours. I had something to eat so I could take naproxen, and also had a top-up 100m gabapentin, and the pain eventually eased to somewhere just above normal. Because I was late with my meds earlier in the day, I didn’t take my night time ones until about 11.30pm. I finally felt capable of tackling the stairs an hour later, and by 1am I was feeling comfortable enough to sleep.

I woke just after 6 and didn’t feel too bad … until I tried to get up to go to the loo. I’ve already had the meds I normally take at 7am, so hopefully they will kick in soon. After yesterday, I feel I’m tempting fate by saying I only have one meeting today, and that’s not until lunchtime. At least having had my morning meds early means I can get away with taking my lunchtime ones before the meeting starts. After that it’s back to podiatry this afternoon to see how bad my left big toe still is. It looked a bit better when Cat redressed it on Wednesday, and thankfully not quite as painful, but it’s still far from normal.
