A few weeks ago I was probably saying to myself (and others) that I’ve had a bit of a bad spell. Well that spell is starting to seem a bit like it’s become normality. It’s true there have been days when I could probably tell you what’s caused a flare up, but most of the time it’s just come on and, like now, takes longer and longer to go.
On a positive note, the physio exercises do seem to be helping to manage the pins and needles and numbness in my right arm.
Back to the bad spells though. I’ve had a lot of rough nights recently and that has definitely led to increased pain in the mornings. There’s been a few occasions when I’ve only just made it to my desk for 9am – my personally imposed cut-off for starting work – and that has even included days when I’ve worked at home so couldn’t even blame the 10-15 minute commute! 😮
This weekend has been one of worst periods of prolonged and acute pain I can remember. Friday had been a relatively normal day in the office, but over the course of the day I felt like knitting needles were being repeatedly jabbed into random spots of my back. My right arm, whilst not tingling or numb, felt like I’d over-exercised it (I most definitely hadn’t) and was like I was dragging a heavy weight around. I went to bed for a few hours when I got home but that became painful so got up, mooched around the bungalow and then watched tv for a couple of hours before going back to bed.
Saturday was a write-off. We were supposed to go to the bank and then go and get a bedroom design sorted but binned both off in favour of sitting in bed doing some personal admin. Often I’m finding sitting in bed the most comfortable for my back, although not great for my legs. 😏 Ruth went to Basingstoke without me in the evening, and I eventually settled into a couple of hours of Xbox.
Saturday night was another rough one with the pain keeping me awake for prolonged spells. We had the rescheduled bedroom design appointment on Sunday morning and then popped into town for brunch and to decide what to do about the cupboards etc. That was enough for me to feel like I’d overdone it and I once again spent the evening in significant pain. As the afternoon and evening wore on I started get a lot of pain in my upper neck/base of the skull. I suspect I’ve been doing something to try to alleviate the back pain and caused my neck to suffer. By the time I went to bed it was quite excruciating and has caused a very disturbed night once again.
To end this post on a positive note though, I’ve been given 1st June as my date for surgery. 🤞🏻
