Day 2 post surgery update

Apart from needing pain relief just as the nurses were starting handover last night, and so waiting over an hour for some oramorph to settle the pain from all the moving around, once I’d had it I went to sleep quite quickly. I woke at about 1.45 for obs and there was quite a breeze coming through the window. At first I thought it was quite welcome, but then realised I was actually feeling cold and that was preventing me getting to sleep. Once I had a sheet over me I think I slept again fairly quickly.

Having been woken for morning obs, I think I must’ve dozed until they came round with breakfast, and even after that I think I was nodding off a bit. I’d left the sheet over me for too long, and also had pillows down both sides of me where I’d be sleeping on both sides, so I’d got quite hot a sweaty. The fact I was able to sleep on my left for part of the night was a good sign though as it means the site of the temporary device is less sore. A couple of the nurses gave me a very welcome bed bath and I felt so refreshed after.

The doctors did their rounds and said I should be able to start mobilising a bit. I haven’t tried yet, and I’m a little concerned as to how my left leg will be. It’s been weak since I started getting the symptoms a few years ago, but I really struggle to lift it when they do my tests. That makes me wonder if it will support me. Time will tell.

I spent the morning sat up in bed listening to the radio and reading the numerous messages sending birthday wishes to me. Hospital isn’t the ideal place to spend your birthday, but hey ho.

Another birthday in hospital 😏

My BP is up today. The ramipril that I normally take in the morning has been suspended since the day of surgery, which I hadn’t realised yesterday. The doctors are starting me back on it tomorrow. I’ve just had obs done again and my BP was once again high, but I am in increased pain again having been moving my neck around to eat lunch and then brush my teeth. I’ve just had some oral morphine to help manage the pain and hopefully that in turn will’ve helped my BP next time they do obs.
