SCS swap day arrives

Surgery day has arrived, albeit I need to go and get some sleep before the day starts properly. No food after 2am (it’s 1.40am as I write this) so I had breakfast about 1/2 hour ago. Water only now until 8am as I’m on the afternoon list. Me being me, I’m watching spinal cord surgery the night before neurosurgery! (Surgeons: At the edge of life S3 Ep3 if you’re interested). Thankfully mine is nowhere near as risky as what they are doing on that patient.

Anyway, just a quick update to say all things seem to be on course. I had an email from Mr Mundil the other day to confirm the plan. He’s going to do the complete swap in one go – no trial with the generator on the outside this time – and I should be discharged Monday or Tuesday. The device won’t be switched on until I’ve recovered from the surgery so the effects of it are not masked by the neck pain.

More updates will come as and when I’m able.
