Last night really brought home the benefits of the changes I’ve made in recent months. My former colleagues at UHS Digital kindly invited me to their Christmas party. Previously this would have been one of those situations that would have caused me a whole load of anxiety. Would I be able to find somewhere comfortable to sit? Would I be able to get to the bar? Are the loos accessible and would I be able to get in when I need to? Would I end up sat in one place craning my neck talking to people standing around?
Long-term readers will know it took me a long time to accept some of my limitations and seek help. Having done that in recent months so many of those worries have (more or less) gone.
- Going to the party in my fancy chair means I was sure I’d have somewhere to sit
- The chair has a feature called iLevel – a function that enables the seat to be raised up. This means I can talk to people at close to their standing height. No more cricked neck!
- The external catheter removed the anxiety of getting to the loo. Well it almost removed the anxiety. I am not 100% confident that I won’t get a leak. However, I am much more confident than having nothing at all.
