I had another hydrotherapy session this morning, and again felt like I’m really making progress. I started doing some warm-ups (I don’t get that bit – just standing in the hydrotherapy pool is warming me up, surely that counts!) with walks up and down the pool. Whilst I wasn’t anything like 100% stable, I was far less wobbly than I remember being last week, and certainly better than I was in the public pool on Monday. Mind you, the shallowest part of the hydro pool is still lower chest height, so I was coming out of the water more at Oaklands. I explained that I struggled a bit at Oaklands with the exercise holding the side of the pool, as there is no bar around the pool like there is in the hydro pool. So that I can continue do exercises at Oaklands we therefore focussed on exercises that do not require anything that Oaklands doesn’t have – which I think is pretty much just the rail.
In addition to balancing on a woggle, and doing body twists, I took a float under one hand and tried pushing the float underwater, just by leaning to that side. This seemed pretty easy at the start, but after a few I started to feel the muscles working more. This was the same both sides of the body. We then went back to balancing on the woggle, but this time raising one hand out of the water.
Following the session I met up with a couple of colleagues in the canteen, in what seems to have become my weekly work catch-up. Thankfully this time I (or perhaps I mean they) did not have to put up with the head sweats of last week.
