Long overdue update

It’s been quite mixed in terms of how I’ve been feeling over the last few weeks. It took a good few days to recover from the fall. My sleep pattern has been all over the place again which doesn’t help. It was great to have a couple of weeks off over Christmas, but it made getting back to work all the more difficult. One positive step I took when I went back was to try to avoid relying on my stick when walking around the vicinity of my office – going to the kitchen, nearby meeting room etc. I feel I’ve probably been leaning on it too much, rather than just having it there for balance, and perhaps that has been causing additional pressure on the painful areas of my back. So far I’ve had a few wobbles, but nothing serious, and I’ve managed to avoid spilling my coffee between the kitchen and my office (all of about 10 metres, but that’s not the point!).

I’ve also been making more of a concerted effort to get on the cross-trainer a few times each week. I’m only doing 5 minutes at a time, as that is what the physio recommended until I’m perfectly happy to start increasing it. I also made sure my tyres were pumped up and the bicycle generally ready to be ridden on Sunday. I’d intended to go round the block that afternoon, but by the time I’d done it, and done the car tyres while I was there, I was so cold and tired, I didn’t feel up to it. Something for this weekend instead. I’ve set myself a target of cycling to work in February. Maybe not doing it every day, but at least knowing it is doable. Apart from the obvious health benefit, it’ll also be good to know I can use the bike on days Cat is not feeling well, so I don’t have to drag her out of bed to take me to work.

I’ve got a work event in Swindon today, and it’s just dawning on me that this is probably the furthest I’ve driven on my own since the first op. 🤞🏻
