It’s fair to say last week at work was pretty bad even by my standards, and on top of the work I was trying to finish before a week off, we sold the house within days of going on the market, so had conveyancing stuff to sort as well. I also had a problem down the edge of the nail on my left thumb. It didn’t seem like the nail had grown in as such, but it had got quite inflamed and by Saturday I realised me treating it at home wasn’t working and so went to see the nurse practitioner. When she took the dressing off it looked way worse than when I’d put it on 2 days before. It was infected and the skin had significant over granulation where it was trying to heal itself. The nurse dressed it and gave me some antibiotics, and said I’d need to get it seen every 2-3 days.
It was therefore much later that afternoon we finally got ourselves underway for a break in Cornwall. The drive down was pretty good, and I felt fine when we got there, but yesterday I was starting to suffer with the usual increased pain after a long drive. We didn’t do much all day other than catch up with Sophie & Ben, and then went for a walk in a nearby park so that my grandson Kieran and the dog could burn off some energy.
Having ummed and ahed about what to do with a Red Letter Day voucher I’d been given for my 50th last year, I’d eventually decided it was time to finally try jet skiing. I’ve thought about doing it so many times, particularly when we’ve been in the Caribbean, but always been a bit dubious of the beach guys that usually hire them out, and have inevitably ended up spending the money on diving instead. A few weeks ago I therefore booked for Cat and I to do a mini safari.
I’d deliberately left a couple of days after the drive when I booked it, in case I had increased pain, so I booked it for today thinking it would be 48 hours after the drive, not realising that the house sale and infected thumb would conspire against me. After a rough night last night, I’ve been in quite a bad way today. The pain has been bad, and my thumb has certainly not helped my capability to do things. Unfortunately I therefore had to give up my place but at least Sophie was able go instead. I was absolutely gutted as I watched them heading out, but at least I hadn’t had to cancel and lose the money. I was chatting to the people at the jet ski place and decided I was definitely going to do this before my back and legs get any worse. Perhaps another trip to Cornwall will be needed before the end of the season! I instead spent the hour sat on the beach with my iPad looking for bungalows, having had an offer on one rejected just before the session started.
By the time we had walked back up the 80+ steps to the car park, I was pretty much finished, although did manage a little stroll along a pet friendly beech before heading back to S&B’s.
