Because it Does You In!
With Cat’s bed arriving on Wednesday, I had the weekend to get sorted and put the flooring down in her bedroom. Saturday came and went with a trip to B&Q, and some work stuff about all I had to show for the day, so Sunday was always going to be a rush. Once I got started, I was actually surprised at how easily I seemed to be moving around, because usually I find getting up from the floor quite a struggle, particularly if I’ve been down there for more than a few minutes. As the day wore on though, I could feel the general pain increasing, and it became harder to get back up each time I got down on the floor to lay some more planks. I gave up at the point I needed to start doing some long cuts, and so needed the table saw I’d set up outside. Given the time to my he evening I didn’t think the neighbours would appreciate me starting then.
When I got up this morning I was surprised to find my legs didn’t feel too bad, until I tried to use them, and then realised that I couldn’t really feel them at all. I hobbled around the house with the worse case of jelly legs I can remember, and got myself ready for work. Most of the day was filled with Teams calls (nothing new there then), but each time I got up to make a coffee or go to the loo I was reminded that the relative comfort was only because I’d been sat down, and gradually the feeling of muscle pain grew.
With time against me, I got back to the flooring after work, and immediately started to suffer. Every time I got down on the floor, even for a few seconds, I really struggled to get back up. I managed to get the last few rows cut and laid, and put the light back up. Having got that done I thought a walk might help to loosen my legs up a bit, so went round to the shop. I’d put the soft splint on my left foot as usual, but realised as I walked that my right foot was slapping on the ground, like my left foot tends to do without the splint on. Presumably this is down to the muscles having been given a work out rather than anything else.
In other news… I have a follow-up with Dr Gutteridge from the pain team in a couple of weeks to discuss my medication and the side effects. I want to make sure I’ve got the balance of benefits to side-effects right if this is what I’m likely to be taking for rest of my life – or something better crops up.
Still keeping roughly up to date with you via your blog.
Great to see that you are still pushing on with things, even though they are clearly not easy.
Keep on pushing.
You never do anything by halves, do you. Please be more careful. Lots of love MUM xxx
